The video moves around the “backstage” of the movie theatre, in its space and architecture, on a quest for the origins of the moving image. Drawn on silent movies, the project composes of brief scenes, where the three silent characters venture into an exploration by night of real sites in Rome and the set design reconstructions in the Cinecittà film studios. The two levels of the true city and the cinematic elsewhere superimpose creating an imagery city.
The characters exchange no words, but only movements somewhere between ballet and mime gestures, which leave room for the images alone to speak their dialogue. The soundtrack of the video will be performed live, with the help of a foley and a sound engineer (studio 0 dB, Torino). This project creates a superimposing space between the physicality of cinema, made of places (set) and techniques (audio) and the rarefied place of projection.
